I had no idea where to post this so please bear with me if this is an inappropriate section. I thought that Starbucks offered free wifi to their customers, and I just found out they don’t. I had never been to a starbucks until today and A customer behind me stated that wifi should be free since they charge so much for a small coffee. Why do they charge for wifi? Is this just the starbucks in my town, or is it everywhere? What are your thoughts?

Depends on the Starbucks, but I can’t see them giving wifi away. You’re willing to pay for the ‘expensive’ coffee, they’re willing to sell it to you for that.
.
wifi is free at the starbucks by my house . i do not need it since i have it at my home. In fact, there are alot of coffee houses and bars that are offering free wifi service today. Mycounty and the county next to me are working on offering free service for everyone in these counties with in the next year. its only the basic service, but at least its free.
Yes, Starbucks charges for wifi. They have a partnership with T-Mobile, who supplies the wifi.
The exception is if you have an iPod touch or an iPhone. You are able to access iTunes for free in a Starbucks store.

Oh and I live in NYC.
no the starbucks near me doesn’t charge us directly. Instead the increase the price of the coffee inorder to subsidize the wifi cost. Nothing is free these day.
Yes. It would be great if they didn’t, but if £300 a night in a hotel doesn’t get me “free” WiFi I don’t really see how a £3 cup of coffee will. They have to pay for it, and if they didn’t charge each customer using it for the service they would most likely end up covering the cost by raising the prices on food and drinks to ALL customers. At least this way only the people actually using the service get charged.
